The practice of yoga allows us to balance the energies of the mind and the body in order to go more deeply into our selves. It is there, within, where we gain insights into the challenges we so often rush through and where we are then able to find stillness, clarity, and peace.
Yin is a meditative practice. It is a practice in which we focus on those places within us that need our kind attention. It has become my own, primary practice as it stills my mind and allows me to gently focus on what is truly important in life.
In a Yin practice we become still, softening the body, slowing down the breath, and quieting the mind, The intention is to gently move out of the 'fight or flight mode' of the nervous system and to begin relax into a deeper 'stretch' of the connective networks of the body, and to let go of the chaos that fills our minds.. We settle into various seated and reclined postures for several minutes while mindfully focusing on the subtle rhythm of the breath and the sensations of the body. As the breath slows down, the heart rate slows down, thoughts begin to slow down, more blood and energy move through the body and we experience a more spacious and calm sense of being.
In a restorative practice we also become still. We soften the body, slow down the breath and quiet the mind. The intention is also to move out of the 'fight or flight mode' of the nervous system, and to relax, and let go. Unlike a yin practice, however, which focuses on a deep stretch of the inner connective tissues, in a Restorative practice we rest the body deeply and completely, often with the use of full body props.
Restorative Yoga is the perfect practice if you are healing from illness or injury, and/or if you would like to experience a sense of deep rest.
In a gentle hatha practice we balance the energies of mind and body through gentle movement synchronized with breath. Slow and meditative, we move through a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility as well as to create a sense of feeling grounded, and at ease.
Gentle Hatha Yoga is the perfect practice if you are new to yoga or are an experienced yoga practitioner who wants a practice that is soothing, grounding, and meditative.
PRIVATE ONE-TO-ONE SESSIONS
Private sessions are wonderful if a class, at this time, doesn't feel appropriate, or isn't possible. They allow for personal attention, and can be scheduled to suit your needs. Each session is designed specifically for the individual, whether you are in the midst of illness or injury and would like a gentle focused session to support healing, or you would simply like support to cultivate a home practice. These sessions are some of my favorites.
